First of all, your question should be: "How long have snails and slugs been around?" Simple subject-verb agreement.

Second, if you do a search on Google for "snails and slugs origin" you will find that snails and slugs belong to the species named 'gastropod'.

Third, a search for 'gastropod', again on Wikipedia, turns up an article that states: "The first gastropods were exclusively marine, with the earliest representatives of the group appearing in the Late Cambrian."

Fourth, just click on the blue text "Cambrian" and that will take you to a final article that tells you the late Cambrian is about 500 million years ago.

So to answer your question: snails and slugs have been around for about 500 million years, give or take a few tens of millions of years.

If you're going to correct someone, you should make sure all your facts are correct as well. Gastrapoda is not the name of a species its the name of the class. There are different genus in this class and many different species in each genus.

How long does it take fora snil to build a new shell?

Snails dont rebuild their shells. I used to think that slugs were just snails without shells, but without their shells, snails die. Their bodies are sort of connected to the shells.

Does female ejaculate semen?

No. The function of semen is to nourish sperm to keep them alive long enough to make a female pregnant, and it is produced and ejaculated by the male only. The only exception to this is in primitive species such as snails and slugs which are hermaphrodites. Adult snails and slugs have both male and female reproductive organs and when they mate they exchange sperm so that each goes and lays eggs. This is not truly an example of semen from a female because slugs and snails are neither male nor female.

Does aluminum foil repell snails?

Most people recommend using copper foil as a repellent for slugs and snails. Conventional wisdom suggests that the slugs & snails receive an unpleasant electrical sensation and are deterred from crossing the copper. I have had reasonably good success using aluminum foil to repel slugs. When we used to feed our dogs in an enamel pan, slugs would constantly invade and eat the dog food. After switching to an aluminum pan, slugs were no longer a problem. Placing aluminum foil around our broccoli plants helped to deter the slugs as well. Aluminum is a lot cheaper than copper. For planters and raised beds, you can get a roll of self-adhesive aluminum tape at hardware stores (look in the heating/venting aisle); 2 inches wide and 150 feet long for $10-15 US. Copper foil tape is considerably more expensive, and can be found in the garden department. Note that the aluminum or copper must be uncoated. The coating will prevent the electrical reaction that repels slugs and snails. ================= I have found aluminium to be useless against snails. However, copper appears to work. I have 10 pots in my front garden. I put copper strips on the lips of 3 of them and aluminium strips on the other 7. I took a photo in my garden last night which shows a snail happily sliding along on the aluminium strips I had carefully stuck on the edge of one of my pots. There were many others on the other aluminium edged pots (I killed 11 all up from the aluminium edged pots). However, the 3 pots edged with copper had no snails in them.
