Once you file a police report of an offense YOU have nothing further to do in the process. Citizens and members of the public do not "press charges." Only the prosecutors office (or DA) can "press charges."

There generally is no statutory time limit on reporting an offense, however, time is of the essence. The longer it goes un-reported the more difficult it becomes to recover evidence and/or begin an investigation - and if too much time passes, it may even raise doubt as to whether a crime was actually committed or not.

There is no time limit.

However, it is best to report something right away.

This varies, depending upon the crime, and one's relation to it. The sooner the better, as a rule.

How long after an accident if not reported to the police do you have to claim through the insurance?

In Massachusetts you do not have a limit to let them know. but state law says that you should report an accident within 3 to 7 business days. depending on the amount of damage.... personal advise..... always report accidents to the insurance company immediately no matter what the situation. if you do not report and another person does then their story is on record first and you may loose credibility. 30 days is the limit I believe

Most states have limits on damage. If the total damage exceeds the limit you should report it to police. If there was no damage to the telephone pole, you probably won't have any problems, but you can't always be sure.

In parking lot accident with no police report filed but agreement made to be paid by other driver who will not pay for damages now?

A few things. 1st did you get his plate and info? Is the damage over the report requirement? ($2500.00 per vehical where I live) Call the police and report the crash, tell them you didn't think the damage was over the report limit. Also tell them you can't get in touch with the other party to warn him. 2nd If you are under the report limit Sue him in small claims court, tell the truth, make sure the Judge knows that the other guy has been avoiding you and won't pay after agreeing to. If you are unable to notify him because of this make sure you can tell the judge how you tried. Finally If you are over the report and Police refuse to intervene, get your insurance company involved anyway.

When a crash results in property damage of any amount must the driver notify the Florida highway patrol the sheriffs department or the city police department?

The answer depends on where the accident took place. If it occurred on a freeway, it's probably FHP jurisdiction. Inside the city limits, call that city's police; outside the city limits, the county sheriff. If you call any one of these and tell them where the incident occurred, they can probably tell you which agency will handle the report.

If you meet with with an accident on the last day of your insurance coverage will insurance company pay for it and Can you report accident after the last day?

Generally, your coverage expires at midnight on the last day of your policy. Until then, you are covered. There may be some time limit during which you must report an accident, but if it happened while you were covered, the insurance company should take care if it.
