It takes 1 year, BUT the minimum age for a full license is 16.
For example, if you got your learners permit at 14 you could get it at 16 (2 years)
If you are 15 or older, you would only have to wait one year after getting your learners :)
Depends on the Province. In Alberta, you have to have your learner's for 12 months, then you get a GDL licence. You will have that at least 2 years. There are certain restrictions, mainly a limit of 8 demerits. (normal being 15)

As long as your of the requisite age (16) you can get a learners permit by sitting and passing a test that takes less than an hour, having your photo taken for the license and paying the fee.
