How long does chocolate last before it goes bad?

Most chocolates are good for a few months to about a year or so. This rate will drop significantly, however, if the chocolate is not stored properly in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight.

Vacuum sealing chocolate can significantly increase its shelf life, to as long as three years provided it is still stored in a cool place. Do not refrigerate or freeze chocolate though.
