I have fair skin so I sunburn easily after I have been in the sun I put after sun on then I put on Aloe Vera Gel, You can get it from places like Holland and Barratts. I am not to sure what to do about severe but hope that helps.
It depends on the severity, a mild one could heal as fast as 24 hours, while a bad one could take up to 2 weeks. Sun exposure to the burn also affects healing time. But they will stop hurting log before that, usually in 3-4 days

if you already have a sunburn, then adding sunscreen is like checking on your burgers after their already burnt! I wouldn't recommend being out in the sun too long, if you have a sunburn, i suggest placing REAL aloe vera plants on the sunburn area and leave it there for about 30 min and then switch it out with a new one, aloe vera takes the heat right out of your sunburn...
