New fluid will be in system almost immediately but if you need to bleed system brakes will not perform properly until they have been bled.
The way to check the level of your brake fluid is to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and read the dipstick. There may also just be a line on the reservoir that says 'Full.' If your brake fluid does not reach that level, add type DOT 3 brake fluid.

It is toward the back about where the drivers right side area would be. However how you get the cap off to add fluid is beyond me. It is too far back to be able to reach in or get a funnel in there. ? ? So how do you add brake fluid on these vans?
If there is fluid leaking in or on the wheels, your problem is most likely there at the leak. When the fluid fails to reach the wheels is when the master cylinder would be in question. Most often if you find and repair the leak, you have fixed the problem. After fixing the leak,make sure you fill your fluid to the full mark after you bleed the brakes to prevent any air from corrupting the system.
