What brake fluid do you use for a 1996 corolla dx and how do you check if its enough?

The way to check the level of your brake fluid is to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and read the dipstick. There may also just be a line on the reservoir that says 'Full.' If your brake fluid does not reach that level, add type DOT 3 brake fluid.

When hearing air while applying brake could it be master cylinder Know fluid is leaking from wheels?

If there is fluid leaking in or on the wheels, your problem is most likely there at the leak. When the fluid fails to reach the wheels is when the master cylinder would be in question. Most often if you find and repair the leak, you have fixed the problem. After fixing the leak, make sure you fill your fluid to the full mark after you bleed the brakes to prevent any air from corrupting the system.

Can the brakes be bled without removing wheels?

Yes as long as you can reach the brake bleeder valves; this is not always possible, more so when a vehicle has aftermarket rims or different tire sizes. Please Note: Brake fluid is very corrosive to painted surfaces, if the vehicle has painted rims the fluid will 'strip' the paint if it comes into contact with it.

In the engine compartment, rear right corner. Note it takes ATF, NOT power steering fluid. Brake and clutch fluid are behind the speedometer- reach behind the plastic cover, you'll find two plastic notches- pull up (hard) on these and the cover pivots forward revealing the fluid storage.
