Professional counselors typically have the minimum of a master's degree. Those who have a practice are mostly individuals with a doctorate and are certified and licensed. The master's degree will take two to three years post bachelor's degree which in itself is a four year program of study as a full-time student. Thus, four years for The Bachelor's degree, and two to three years for the master's degree. A doctorate would take approximately four years post bachelor's degree.
