The simple fact about zoo work is that it is hard to "break in" in addition to your degree you are going to have a way better shot actually working in the zoo setting if you have many hours of experience in a zoo or doing wildlife field work. I would suggest doing at least one of the many internships available to college students. The zoo world is pretty small and once you know some people on the inside and they can give you a good reference, you will have a lot better chance getting the job you want.
