changing the water pump on the 2.5 V6 is quite simple start by removing the battery which will give you access to the water pump. Then remove the front cover ( over the spark plugs v6 only) this will give you access to the belt tensioner for the belt that drives the water pump. you should be able to move this just with your hand and remove the belt. next remove the bolts around the water pump and remove it ......... reinstall in reverse order ( don't forget the new gasket)should take less then an hour ....... just basic tools

AnswerBoy, I don't know where the previous answer came from. It took me over 4 hours to change on a 2.0 4cyl. After all, dealer charges $600 to change. You have to remove the accessory belt, the left engine mount, the timing belt and the right wheel to get to the crankshaft. Its very easy to misalign the camshafts in the procedure, so you end up having to re-set the camshafts as well. Add another hour to do that plus a separate tool.

Not a difficult job but certainly takes several hours and several steps....

AnswerI just changed one on a 98 contour V6. It took a little while. Removed the Battery and the cover that protects a person form the belt that drives the wter pump. To get enough room to work around the water pump, I also had to remove a hose and part of the thermostat housing. Then remove the water pump belt tensioner. Then take off the water pump. You can do this from the top fo the car, but I do not recommend doing it in direct sun. It takes longer than 2 hours if it is your first time. That is for sure.
