There are three elements to the cooking of a shepherds pie. First the minced lamb, that would normally cook for 30 to 40 minutes in a sauce pan, then you need to boil the potatoes for the MASH, they take about 17 to 20 minutes in boiling water. Then make the pie and bake in a hot oven for about 20 minutes until piping hot and golden on top.
