There is no such degree as "arts, visual and performing." Performing arts is acting, voice, dance, etc. Visual arts include painting, sculpture, Photography, etc. Many schools, pubic and private, offer theater programs, most notably the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University and the drama program at Julliard (which is a proprietary school). You can also study theater at most larger universities. A Bachelor's degree is four years and a Master' degree is two more years after that.

What do colleges like to see more performing arts or visual arts?

Well, obviously if you want to go into one of those fields, then choose that one. Other wise, it really doesn't matter, as long as you have extracurriculars. Try to find something in which you can obtain a leadership role. And if you are interested in a particular major, then do activities related to that. But most of all, make sure your GPA is as close to 4.0 as possible and you do well on the SAT and ACT exams.
