I was on depo for 5 1/2 years, and had many problems once I got off it. I was not getting my period, but was having all the symptoms of pregnancy. It ended up being that my body was going through withdrawl of the drug. My last shot was beginning of January. By the end of June still no period, I went to the doctors, and they say it can take 12-18 months to get your body back to "normal" after depo, but since I got off it to try to get pregnant. They put me on provera (hormone pill) to try to jumpstart things. My period came back 6 weeks later. They found I was not ovulating on my own (which happens to many women after depo, because not getting your period for that long really screws us up) So I started Birth Control pills to regulate my cycles and try to dissolve the cyst. The first month of birth control pills (so the first month I ovulated) I got pregnant! Unfortuantly, I miscarried at 5 weeks along, and the cyst is still there! Now I am on a month of birth control pills again, and if the cyst doesn't dissolve then I have to have surgery to remove it, all because of stupid Depo =( I guess I shouldn't have messed with mother nature. Anyways, I guess you need to start with going to your doctors and see if you are ovulating on your own or not. ALso, normally they say until you have been off the shot for a year, most doctors wont do anything, mine did because my insurance said they would cover it all after 6 months. (Which most wont, my sister in law had to wait a full year from her last shot) Good luck! I hope you don't have the problems I have had.

∙ 13y agohi i have been on depo since 10,19,09 i was due 7,14,10 but did not get it bcuz i was getting migraine headaches so just today i find out i have a tubal pregnancy they said it had to b withing the past 3 month but dont know how it happen b cuz i was on depo prevera it unbelievable 4 me bcuz i did not think we can get pregnant while on depo but now i know i cant trust anything

∙ 11y agoNormally the effect of this depot preparation of Progesterone get nullified after 3 month. It will normally take up to two years two get pregnant after that. Or your Doctor may ask you to wait for two menstrual cycles and then give you ovulation inducing drugs from third to fifth day of menses for three to five days and Ultrasonography is done to see both ovaries from tenth day of menses. Enlarging follicle can be seen, till it achieved 24 mm size and you may be asked to keep sexual contact for next three days. Disappearance of follicle means ovum is liberated(usually on fourteenth day of cycle.) and within three such cycles, you should get pregnant, specially you have previous baby.

∙ 10y agoYes, you can get pregnant after being on the pill for five years. The length of time you took the pill does not affect the risk of pregnancy (other than in the first seven days of use).
