Normally you ae in a room for 3 days by yourslef, but then after you go home, you should stay away from small children for about 5 days, and adults for 3. You dont have to stay rooms away, just keep a safe distance because when you get to leave you are at a safe radiation level.

What is the half life of radioisotope?

Half life is the time taken for approximately half of the available nuclei in a sample of radioactive material to decay into something else. It's a characteristic of the isotope, for example, the half life of the isotope of iodine, I131 is 8.08 days. Half lives can vary from fractions of a second to thousands of years.

If you live in Canada and want to marry an American how do you go about doing this?

Easiest way is to have him, in the US, apply for a K-1 Fiance visa. (Petition for Alien Fiance Form I-129F) That form will get you started and tell you what you need to do. It's quick, likely 4 or 5 months. You can come across on this "K-1 Fiance Visa", then have to get married within 3 months. You can expect to have to fill out several forms as your part of the Fiance visa application. You will need original documents for any divorces, any children, original long form birth certificate for yourself, criminal record check etc. You will both be able to submit info to prove you are financially capable of supporting yourselves. Actually, it's more on his shoulders. He has to swear to support you for ten years. You will not be able to collect social benefits. You also have to submit proof of relationship, so hold on to pictures, cards, phone records etc. After you are here, as soon as you are married, apply for your permanent residency(Form I-485)takes 2 or 3 years). You can get a work permit (I-765)right away. If you want to leave the US to return to visit Canada, you will need "Advance Parole". Another form (Form I131)and another approximately $125 and it will take several months to get that. I just went through all of this. Lots of paper, but quick.

List four important uses for isotopes?

Medical Usage - these are isotopes added into biological molecules (like sucrose, sugar) and injected into humans to look for accumulation which may indicate cancer and other diseases. Medical treatments. Radioactive iodine (I131) is used to treat hyperthyroidism or thyroid cancer by killing the thyroid tissue using radiation. Chemical/Biological/Agricultural Usage Isotopes are added to small biological molecules and then added into cells to see how bigger biological molecules are made from these cells. Isotopically label glucose to see if it is used in making penicillin by certain molds. Archelogical dating - used to determine the age of older materials from carbon-14 dating and other dating. Warning it only works for materials that have carbon in them - like organic items (paper, cloth, wood etc) and not stone, brick... Smoke alarms - Isotopes like Americium 241 is used in smoke alarms Food irradiation using gamma rays. This kills surface bacteria which spoil foods faster and also may cause people to be come ill.

How iodine is used in both the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease?

Tc99m and I131 arent used in thyroid uptake and scan. Specically I123 is used to evaluate thyroid uptake and is also used to perform a scan mostly in addition to a pinhole collimator. Tc99m can be used just for the purpose of size and shape of thyroid but ultrasound is more specific for that and does not introduce a dose of radiation to the patient.
