The length of time would be approximately seven years beyond high school completion; Four years for The Bachelor's degree and three years of law school for the juris doctor (JD) degree. The JD is received after successful completion of law school. Then the individual must pass the bar-exam in order to practice law.

In order to become an attorney, a person generally must obtain first a bachelor's degree from an accredited college and then obtain a juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Most people complete law school in three years. After graduation from law school, a person must pass a bar exam in the state where he or she intends to work as an attorney. Once licensed to practice law in a state, an attorney may specialize in business law without the need for any additional training just be gaining experience in business law.
