As long as the bulbs had the proper chilling time of 16-18 weeks at 35-45F, and then transferred to the window at room temperature where they can receive at least 6 hours of sunlight, you should have flowers 4 weeks after you see the first nubbin break the soil. For February blooms they need to be planted in mid-October.

Why is water under shade cooler than the water in sunlight?

Its simple... Sunlight is a form of energy.. Energy is mostly liberated in the form of heat. Since water in the sunlight will receive more light energy, its temperature will increase. The water in the shady region will not receive that much light energy as received by the water in sunlight. Hence, its temperature will be low relative to the water in the other case.

Why do balloons pop in sunlight and not in a shadow?

This is the best answer I can think of... In the sunlight, balloons receive energy from the infa-red radiation from the sun. pV=nRT... ie. for a balloon at roughly the same pressure, volume is proportional to temperature. This means that if temperature increases, volume of the balloon increases and so it pops.
