The typical work week of a factory worker in the mid-19th century America was very bad. Most men worked an average of 80 hours per week for a set rate of pay. They worked in poorly ventilated and dimly lit factory environments that greatly impacted their health. Long hours and worn tools cause many injuries and deaths to occur. The wage earners did not see much of their families which caused hardships in the home.
they worked very long hours approx. 12 - 16 hours a day
Basically, the conditions are terrible in most factories they only get paid as much as 40p a day! They have to work for long hours for example from 6 in the morning to 10 at night. The often aren't allowed to sit down or take breaks. The owners, and the bosses can treat the workers very harshly too!
