The typical work week of a factory worker in the mid-19th century America was very bad. Most men worked an average of 80 hours per week for a set rate of pay. They worked in poorly ventilated and dimly lit factory environments that greatly impacted their health. Long hours and worn tools cause many injuries and deaths to occur. The wage earners did not see much of their families which caused hardships in the home.

The Industrial Revolution was the concentration of workers in the urban areas.
Workers needed fewer skills and less training to do most factory jobs.
