More than 300.000 km (190.000 mi) with the required maintenance and the right VW-spec engine oil quality (figures like 505.01 and similar) and oil filter replaced at regular intervals (15,000 km/10,000 mi or 1 year, whichever occurs first). The rest depends on how you use the car - city driving means more wear and shorter life.
The Mercedes petrol engine will last about 300,000-400,000 miles. If the factory maintenance schedule is strictly complied with.
If you put gasoline/petrol in the oil resivoir of any engine, you will destroy the engine if you do not drain the oil and add fresh oil immediately. Start running that engine and it will not last long.
petrol does not last forever
Diesel engines are more efficient and do use less fuel, but they do not cost less than a petrol engine, they cost more. Diesel fuel also costs more. A diesel engine will however last longer.
Both our internal combustion engines but the main difference is that a petrol engine uses spark plugs to ignite the fuel but a diesel engine has no spark plugs but instead uses compression to ignite the fuel. A diesel engine is also built much stronger than a gasoline/petrol engine. Diesel engines get better fuel mileage, last longer, and have much more torque or pulling power than a petrol engine. The only disadvantage to a diesel is the fact that it is more costly to build than a gasoline engine.
Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine and are normally replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
Her name is Octavia Lenora Spencer
They each have their pros and cons. The Diesel will last longer, use less fuel, and has more pulling power or torque. The petrol is cheaper to build, fuel cost less, and is cheaper to repair.

As a taxi driver I have seen other octavia taxis with over 300 000 on the clock. Most of it depends on how well it is used and maintained. I've seen taxis in Athens with 450,000 km and still going strong. It's the kind of car you sell much before it needs a major overhaul, extremely dependable. I sold my 1999 Mark I TDI with 250,000 km on it, no oil consumption, no problems, average 6.3L/100 km. Make sure you get only the VW-spec oil into it when required and don't change more often - sheer waste of money.
