From Where? Okay, I assume you want to know how long it took for troop ships to sail from the East Coast to Germany. However, most troops didn't go directly to Germany. Early in the war, they landed troops at England or North Africa for a brief time of rest and equipping before shipping to Italy or France or Germany. Also, it depended on when they traveled. During the peak of the German U-boat, the convoys traveled long routes or zig-zag routes. The trip took from 5 to 10 days. For example, the 85th Infantry Division departed Fort Dix NJ on 24 December 1943 and landed at Casablanca in North Africa on 2 January 1944.

Hi, I´m Matthes from Germany...

I´m married with an english girl in Herne Bay, and I crossed the channel more than 14 times in the last year...there are two possibilities...to book the crossing by P&O...or DFDS...I like both, and their restaurants on the boats...no, about the times now...P&O is a little bit faster, cause DFDS lands in Dunekirk...it takes 2 hours on sea...P&O needs only one and a half hour...in a normal case...but, to come back to the basic question...I need less than 8 hours, the boat included, to travel from Herne Bay / england to Datteln/ germany....but...I´m travelling only during the night, to avoid the massive travel in Antwerpen/Belgium....and it´s nice on the boats, when there are not so many peoples...
