5 pounds is easy to lose. If you diet and exercise extensively you'd probably be able to lose it in a week. But if you want to diet and exercise moderately you could probably lose it in 3 weeks or less, as long as you're on a proper healthy diet.

If you want to lose weight, starving is NOT the way to do it.

By all means, cut down on the number of fatty and sugary foods you are eating, but starving yourself will only harm your body and will not have any lasting effect on your weight.

The best way to lose weight is through various diets and getting plenty of exercise.
