∙ 14y ago"New moon", as used in Astronomy, is technically the "no-moon" - when the Moon is closest (in direction) to the Sun, so that you can probably not see it.
When you see a crescent, perhaps 1 or 2 days after the new moon, the moon will set soon after. At most, you should be able to see the moon for 1-2 hours - depending how much leeway you leave in your definition of "crescent".
