Between 1939-1945 a total of just over 1,000,000(don't rember exact number but was barely over that) canadians had been in the military in some capacity at one point or another.Obviously not all of them were deployable or had active participation in combat theaters.I believe this number also included merchant marines.
About 45,300.
About 1,081,865 Canadian solders actually fought in the war.
Approximately 44,198 Canadians were killed in WWII.
In World War 1, about 58,000 to 67,000 people were killed. In World War 2, about 45,400 people were killed.
One estimate puts the number near 45,000 - nearly 0.5% of the population at that time.

Canada's casualties totalled 1,558 including 516 who died.
Most of the Canadians that died overseas remain there. Only two military cemeteries exist in the country. There were 42,789 Canadians that died during the war and all but a few thousand remain there.
Approximately 1,500 Canadian soldiers died in the War of 1812. Some of the soldiers died in action while most of the died from disease.
It is important because it is Quebecian territory. Many Canadians fought in the war of 1812 and died. Because of this Quebec fought in the war of 1813.
