This cannot be estimated, because it is unclear how long the Japanese would have fought had the war continued. However based on what has been observed of the behaviour of the Japanese (both military and civilian) during the invasion of Okinawa and records found in the Japanese Military archives after the war, figures ranging from more than a million to over 95% or the total population of Japan and its remaining occupied territories have been proposed by various analysts.
four million people would have did if we did not use the atomic bomb
To save US soldiers lives and to bring a quicker end to the war
Answer One reason for using the atomic bomb was to shorten the war and save the lives of American and also Japanese soldiers who would die in the invasion. How do you put a price tag on lives???????????
Although using such a devastating weapon is always questioned, I believe the U.S. was justified to use the Atomic Bomb. Even the Japanese citizens were told to fight. By dropping the Atomic bomb, there was potentially less death, since no U.S. soldiers were harmed. The citizens would not have surrendered. Japan was not going to surrender, and so the Atomic bomb saved thousands of American lives, and shortened that terrible war
In theory, everyone wearing a hard-hat is likely to have had their life saved.
Atomic not Atomis!
Was using the Atomic Bomb a good idea? Yes, it was. It ended the war and actually saved many lives. If we didn't use the bomb on the Japanese they could have killed many of our soldiers or destroyed our cities. A few good reasons to use the bomb was because it ended the war, saved many lives, and to get back for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Using the atomic bomb in WWII was a good way the end the war. If the war didn't end, many more soldiers could have died. The number of people that died from the bomb is only a small fraction of the people that would have died if the war kept going on. According to Marston 13, around 200,000 people died and many more were injured. If the war kept going, millions of people could have died. One other reason for using the bomb was to get back for the attack on Pearl Harbor. From that attack, about 1,500 people died, and almost 200 U.S. planes were destroyed. Using the atomic bomb on them was a great way to get back at them by killing more than one hundred times as many people.
Invading it the conventional way would have cost many American lives, and the US decided it was better to just kill of a load of Japanese people instead.
It was felt that when the American forces invaded the Japanese mainland islands, there would be a great loss of life. Not only on the American forces, but also on the Japanese civilian population. The Japanese had been instilled into them to fight to the last man, woman and child. So fearful had the civilians been, that on some of the other islands, some civilians had thrown themselves off cliffs into the sea to die. Despite the terrible use of the two atomic bombs, they did force the Japanese military Government to finally surrender. The Japanese surrender brought the war in Asia to an end, and it is thought, saved more lives on both sides from being wasted needlessly. Let us hope that atomic weapons will never have to be used again.
if we never dropped that bomb the Japanese wouldn't have ever stopped trying
To end the war ASAP!
During this time, Harry S. Truman had several choices, but most would cause a great deal of American and Allied lives. So he opted to use the A-bomb to get the Japanese to give an unconditional surrender.
