Usually, just one, but I don't think you should have more than one. I think it is possible to have Windows and Linux on one hard drive. well it also depends if you want to have more the 1 partition. The way to do that is to format the disk or at the start of installation process you change the amount of memory you want in your C drive and with the extra memory the can make a new partition. But if you have to many partitions you can really mess up how your computer boots up.
