In olden times (and in mny places today too), temples were built for many gods or for one local god out of many. The Temple of Solomon, however, was built for the One and only God.
Two temples were built.
They came from all over the world to see Solomon's temple, and the fastest mode of travel was horseback, so you can see that some of them must have been travelling for many months.

In 2nd Samuel 7:2, King David said "Here I am living in a house of cedars while the Ark of the true God sits in the midst of tent cloths" expressing his feelings and desire to build the house for Jehovah (the temple). In verses 12 & 13, Jehovah told David that it was his son who would build the temple. David did much to collect many of the supplies needed to build the temple as recorded in 1 Chronicles 29:1-9. In 1 Chronicles 28:10, David tells his son "See, now, for Jehovah has chosen you to build a house as a sanctuary. Be courageous and go to work." (NWT)
