This question should read "...shot down by NORTH Vietnam's fighters..." as this was a separate nation from South Vietnam; and SOUTH Vietnam didn't (intentionally) shoot down any US combat fighter planes.
Additionally, data (statistics) will almost always be inaccurate due to WHO's writing it. Another words, "he which holds the gold makes the rules" (or "the victor writes the book" even though in this case the US wasn't the victor). Bottom line is this: If the stats are written by the North Viets then they could be suspect; if written by the US, the same rule "could" apply. The best stats are agreed upon by both parties (another words they will match).
The US Navy/Marine Corps record 16 jets lost to NVAF MiGs, while shooting down 61 NVAF MiG17, MiG19, and MiG21s. The USAF records losing 67 jets to the NVAF. The NVAF in some writings might claim well over those figures. Be advised the NVAF MiG 17s & 19s weren't all Soviet built aircraft; many of the Mig17s were actually Chicom J5 versions of the Soviet MiG17 & the MiG19s were actually Chicom J6s (Chinese Communist). The Soviets did NOT supply the NVAF with MiG19s. The Red Chinese did NOT supply the NVAF with MiG21s. But they both supplied the NVAF with MiG17s (and J5s).

The North came down (South) and attacked with tanks and infantry, winning the war. There were no more B-52's to stop them.
Hainan. The only USAF F-104 Starfighter shot down in aerial combat was downed by a Red Chinese MiG19 (Chicom J6 version) based on Hainan island in 1965. Note: During the Vietnam war Nationalist China (Taiwan) was also called "China."
Vietnam Era: He flew a F102 Delta Dagger with the Texas Air National Guard. F102's fought in Vietnam, 14 were lost; including one shot down in aerial combat with MiG 21's.
No one used to say, "Republic of South Vietnam", or "I'm going to South Vietnam", it was usually said as, "I'm going to Vietnam", hence the word Vietnam...when in reality we were headed for SOUTH Vietnam, Vietnam was two separate countries. North and South Vietnam were simply countries in the south eastern portion of Asia (on the continent of Eurasia). You certainly weren't going to NORTH Vietnam. Not unless you were either an aircrewman or pilot. Those men actually fought in the skies of NORTH Vietnam. Aerial dog-fights (air combat) over South Vietnam rarely if ever happened. Nearly, if not all, of our POWs were airmen shot down over NORTH Vietnam.

Yes, combat arms does slow your computer down.
1. First war in which all combatants were armed with fully automatic rifles. 2. Last war fought in which heavy bomber tail gunners (B52)shot down enemy fighters in aerial combat (2 North Vietnamese Air Force MiG21s). 3. Last war fought by a traditionally gunned battleship (no missiles) USS New Jersey.
Obtain the book: "Journey Into Darkness", by (LTC) Philip E. Smith & Peggy Herz; published in 1992. ISBN 067-1728-237. While on a combat mission near North Vietnam, LTC Smith's F-104 STARFIGHTER was shot down in aerial combat by a Red Chinese MIG-19 (J-6 version) after straying too close to their border. This book might answer some of your questions.
No, but a Red Chinese MiG19 (J-6 version) shot down a Starfighter in 1965 after straying too close to their airspace, while conducting combat missions along the North Vietnamese coast.
