If you are in a NYC school so called "seat time" no longer exists. Students can miss 50% of their classes and the teacher will still be "encouraged" to pass that student. I do not think truancy officers exist any more. This BS is due to the fact that if NYC actually held the kids accountable for attendance as schools do in the suburbs do, their pass rate would be horrible. This is especially true in minority schools where the pass rate is always low. It is all a numbers game but does not help the kids who pass but are not in school and it angers kids who do come to school. I have taught in two NYC public a schools and have confirmed that this goes on across the city.

No we are not covered by either law therefore we are not allowed to carry off duty except 1 hour before and after shift. However firearms are not allowed on state property- we never carry a weapon off duty.
