How do you plumb a garbage disposal in a sink with one drain?

Same as you would for a double sink. There is a short tail piece with the disposal that attaches with a flat plate and a short bolt. Install the disposal on the sink and route the drain as needed. There has to be a trap between the disposal and the drain.

Why on a double-bowl sink does the water shoot up and out of the other side when the garbage disposal is turned on if the pipes are all clear under the sink?

The disposal is forcing the water out. It seems your down drain must be further away than the 2nd sink and the water is taking the path of least resistance to go somewhere fast. tthere is an inlet on the side of your disposal for a dishwasher hook up. Ceck that if there is no dishwasher hookup going into your disposal you need to plug that hole. == Answer== It could be someone did not use a baffle tee. It is always best to plumb disposal into p-trap first and use waste arm to connect basket strainer. They may have it the other way with no baffle.

How do you fix the garbage disposal when the water does not drain?

If it is a double sink, does the other side drain? Are you trying to fix the disposal because it does not come on or because it comes on but does not drain. If it comes on but does not drain and the other side does, it is probably just clogged with food. They make drain cleaners for disposals. If neither side drains, put the stopper in the disposal side, hold down on it and plunge the other side.

How do you change a garbage disposal?

A new disposal should have instructions with it. Disconnect the electrical supply and the dishwasher tube if it is connected. At the top of the disposal there is a locking ring that attaches it to the sink. There should be 3 tabs sticking out around the ring. They look like 1 inch long tubes. Rotate the ring counter clockwise and the disposal will drop down. Hold the disposal up while turning the ring. The neck sticking down through the sink should have 3 screws holding it in place. Loosen the screws and the plate they go through will raise up so that you can remove the snap ring at the bottom of the tube. With the plate and snap ring removed, push the neck out of the sink. Clean the surface of the sink and use plumbers putty or silicone caulk under the lip of the new disposal neck. Install the neck or flange in the reverse order you took the old one out. Same with the disposal. If there is a dishwasher attached to it, you will need to knock out the plug in the tube on the disposal. Just use a screwdriver and hammer to knock it out before you install the disposal.

How do you unbind blades on a Garbage Disposal Unit?

Two ways. On the bottom of the disposal in the center there is a hex shaped hole. A rod came with the disposal for that purpose. It may be under the sink somewhere. Insert the hex key and wiggle back and forth. Second way, use a wooden broom handle or similar, put it in the disposal and gently pry against the blades using the opening in the sink as the pivot point. Pry both ways and you can usually get it loosened.

How do you replace garbage disposal?

Disconnect the drain hose from the dishwasher if there is one connected, the drain for the disposal hooked to the sink drain and the electrical supply. The disposal itself is held in place with a locking ring. Right below the sink, you will see a ring that has 3 tabs sticking out that look like 1 inch pieces of tube. Use a phillips head screwdriver in the tube as a pry bar and rotate the ring counterclockwise. Hold up on the disposal while doing this. The piece that is in the sink should be held up with 3 bolts. Unscrew them to loosen the plate they are pushing against. With the plate loose, you can take the snap ring off the bottom of the drain and take it out of the sink. To install the new disposal. reverse the process. Use plumber putty or silicone under the edge of the new drain. It really isn't very hard to do.

There is a dime lodged tightly in my garbage disposal on the side. Is there a way to get it out?

On the bottom of the disposal in the center there is a hex, 6 sided hole. A tool came with the disposal to use in this to unjam the disposal. It may be under the sink somewhere or you can use a regular hex wrench. Insert the wrench and wiggle it back and forth. Don't put too much pressure on it, just back and forth. You may be able to back it out of the spot it is in.
