Wii Remotes, or "WiiMotes", require two AAbatteries.
No, the Wii Nunchuk doesn't require batteries. It is wired and is connected to the Wiimote. However you do need batteries for the Wiimote itself to work. There are some wireless nunchuks from third party companies that require batteries though.

A bulb must have a minimum of 1 switch if there are 2 batteries. The batteries can be connected in together via wires to prevent the need for a second switch.
Simply open the back compartment, plug a Wiimote in(same spot as the nunchuck), place the wiimote into the compartment, and close it. The Wiimote won't fit with the protective sleeve grip if you have it. The wiimote also has to be synchronized to the Wii.
