It should be a bleeder screw connected to the cooling system, it might be two.If you find it,you should open one at a time.Pour coolant into the system slowly, until coolant start coming out of the bleeder screw and then close it . DO it to the second screw too.Now if you do not have the bleeder screws.Pour coolant into your system slowly and squeeze the top hose until no bubbles come out and the coolant level should go down at this time and then pour alittle more in there
when it is cold take the cap off the radiator and start the car and let the air out The above answer is incorrect. The cooling system on the Grand Am requires you to bleed the system. There is a bleeder screw on the top of the motor, just follow the black tubing and you'll see it.

The most likely problem is a malfunctioning engine thermostat. Sometimes they just stop working and lock in place anywhere from full-open to fully-closed. You could also have crud in the radiator; this can be at least partially helped by using a radiator flush kit. Lastly, check your radiator hoses for kinks and blockages. Good luck. air pockets in cooling system,Use the bleeder screw at thermostat to release air.
If there are no bleeder valves, simply remove the radiator cap, fill the radiator to the top, start the engine. With the engine running keep the coolant level full and watch for air bubbles. After the engine has reached full operating temp and you no longer see any air bubbles escaping shut it off and replace the cap. If there are bleeder valves use them to remove trapped air after the engine is running. Be careful as not to get burned by hot coolant.
