Pearl Harbor is a location in the Hawaiian Islands. It was the location of the US Navy's main base in the Pacific. It contained a lot of boats and ships when the Japanese attacked it in 1941. It remains a major harbor and base for the US Navy.
Planes launched from boats
The Japanese used mini-submarines. Very small submarines housing only a few men. The attack on Pearl Harbor itself was mostly an air raid. There were five mini subs that launched in total. It is believed that only two actually entered the harbor and that only one released a torpedo.
More than we can count!!
when the Japenese crashed their planes into all of the boats
Three American aircraft carriers were spared from the attack on Pearl Harbor. They were: - The USS Enterprise (she was returning to Pearl Harbor) - The USS Lexington (she was on her way to Midway Island delivering aircraft) - The USS Saratoga (she was docked in San Diego)
Tour boats are available at Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor has 3 battleships still present within the harbor; USS Arizona (submerged & a tomb for over 1,000 US crewmen), USS Utah, re-designated a training/target ship (partially submerged and containing the bodies of over 50 US crewmen), and the USS Missouri which ended the war (the Japanese signed the instrument of surrender upon it's decks on September 2, 1945).
Yes. 18 boats sank, one of the most importent was the Oklahoma.
it took a while but the bases in america sent them oversea to pearl harbour
They used aircraft carriers to transport their fleet but other than a few 2 man submarines, the attack itself was purely an arial event. (Walter Lord's "Day of Infamy)
A sentence with the word harbor might include: "The boats are docked in the harbor." A harbor is an area where boats are docked or stored.
That wasn't an I-Boat, it was a captured "mini-sub" from the Pearl Harbor attack. I-Boats couldn't be hauled around the country, they were way too big.
