I joined the Legion in 1993,at the ame time there was aguy from Holland who turned up to join without a passport,he was shown the door and told to come back with his passport.
Actually after some research it seems that the French foreign legion decided to admit women into its ranks as of 2000. There is a BBC news article dated in October 2000 that states that the French defense Minister Alain Richard has to decided to admit women into the legions ranks in hopes of increasing theirs percentage up to 20% within the next twenty years

As far as I know, you have to be in perfect health to join the French foreign legion. There is a thorough medical check during the selection process.
i dunno :/ i know its a 5 year contract if you want to join the legion(french foreign legion) which is the toughest army to be in now a days.
If they weren't a French citizen, their only option would be the Foreign Legion.
