You have to use more calories than you consume. If you take in 2000 a day, you'd need to burn more than 2000 in a day to lose weight. The additional calories will have to come from somewhere, most of which will be body fat. Remember that you're always burning calories, not just when you're on a piece of exercise equipment.
It all comes down to what you eat. I recommend a sport or exercise to lose weight. Cardio exercise is the best.
In order for one to lose weight, one must burn as many as or more calories than one eats. This goal will be more achievable if one chooses to follow a healthy, low calorie diet, rich in fruits and vegitables and also chooses to take the stairs and other small things other than excersising for hours a day.
