It depends on the organisms. In humans there are 46 double chromosome, which are called sister chromatids. There are a total of 92 sister chromatids, which will eventually separate into individual chromosomes during anaphase of mitosis.

There are 46 chromosomes visible in prophase. That means that the number of doubled chromosomes visible in prophase would be 23.

When during mitosis are sister chromatids visible?

Chromatids are visible during the Prophase of the Cell Cycle, as the chromosomes which chromatids are formed from condense, thus making them visible.

What is the the mitosis stage when the chromatids are visible?

It is during the prophase when chromatids become visible. Prophase is the first as well as the longest stage of mitosis.

What stage of mitosis can you visualize DNA?

Prophase. Prophase occurs directly after the G2 phase of interphase. In early Prophase, the sister chromatids condense further, becoming visible with a microscope.

What phase of mitosis does the chromatids appear in the form of shortened rod-like structures?

Later in the Prophase the Chromatids become more clearly visible as a result of the chromosomes becoming shorter and thicker.

What phase does the chromosomes condense into chromatids?

prophase

Are chromosomes now visible during prophase?

In prophase there's just the condensation of the chromatin material into chromosomes...& nuclear membrane disappears but the chromosomes aren't clearly visible, they are better visible during metaphase..!

When do chromosomes form in the cell cycle?

1 Prophase - DNA coils up , chromatids form and chromosomes become visible, nuclear envelope dissolves, and spindle fibers form.

What chromatids are attached at the centromere?

Strictly speaking, chromatids aren't attached; they grow that way. They are, however, formed during Prophase of mitosis and Prophase I of meiosis. A: CENTROMERES

What is the site of crossing over between two non-sister chromatids?

Chiasma - The microscopically visible site where crossing over has occurred between chromatids of homologous chromosomes during prophase I of meiosis.

What phase does chromosomes first appear to be double?

It is during the prophase in which chromosomes first appear to be duplex structures. Each cell in a person typically has 23 pairs of chromosomes.

The replicas of chromosomes that form during prophase are called what?

During prophase, a chromosome is composed of tightly coiled DNA and protein molecules. Each chromosome exists as a pair of identical sister chromatids which are held together at the centromere.

What phase of meiosis do nonsister chromatids cross over?

Nonsister Chromatids Cross-over in Prophase 1
