Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988)-Approximately 380 Iranian & 232 Iraqi fixed wing aircraft were lost. Operation Desert Storm (January & February 1991)-Approximately 40 US fixed wing aircraft were lost, 28 to combat and 12 lost to accidents. Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003 to present)-Approximately 20 fixed wing aircraft have been lost.

Well the battle of Leyte Gulf was the biggest naval battle in world history. It was vs. Japan which in they lost 3 aircraft carries and we only lost 1. It allowed us to get that much closer to Japan and was a real morale boost for the American troops.

The Persian War outcome provided Athens with an empire from the coalition it had formed to finally defeat the Persian threat. It misused the resources of this coalition to spend on itself and so could afford to promote art, culture and building. It also over-promoted its own power on the proceeds of the empire, leading to the Peloponnesian War with the Spartan alliance, which devastated Greece, lost Athens its empire and reduced it to a second-rate power. Greece did not recover and became a target for dominance by Macedonia.
Athens established an empire out of the coalition of Greek cities it led in the latter stages of the Persian War. This power led it into conflict with the other Greek city-states led by Sparta, Athens was defeated and lost its empire. Greece was greatly weakened, leading to its takeover by a rising Macedonia led by Philip II.
