Coke is derived from bituminous coal which is baked in an airless brick kiln (oven) at temperatures as high as 1,000 degrees Celsius to drive off water, coal gas and coal tar so that the fixed carbon and residual ash are fused together to form Coke, once the baking process is complete the Coke is doused with water to instantly cool it. ..... Soft coke is manufactured from non coking coal (The sized (+50 mm) is charged in the coke oven through charging holes from a coke oven top. The coal is devolatilized (harmful volatile organic matter is driven out) at a specific temperature for a specific period of time after which it is discharged and quenched on the platform. The soft coke is sent to the stock yard after atmospheric drying. Soft coke is sold to domestic users, restaurants for cooking / domestic heating purpose.

In short, Drip Pot is being used in Coke Oven Gas piping mainly for removing the condensate generated in the pipe line due to condensation of vapour mixed in the Coke Oven gas which is basically a mix gas. The Drip Pot facilitate removal of condensate from Pipe Line without increasing hazard of excessive gas release from gas line which in tern reduces the risk of inhalation of toxic gas by the operator or the nearby people.

According to steel.nic.in; Coke Rate is measured in Kgs of BF Coke consumed per tonne of Hot Metal produced in the Blast Furnace(Kg/THM). By convention, this excludes coke (nut/pearl coke) mixed with sinter etc. Introduction of high quality coke to a blast furnace will result in lower coke rate, higher productivity and lower hot metal cost.
