Thus negating a true democratic election. In the old days these select few were designated to poll the members of their state and vote for the candidate who best suited the needs of the state. Today it is just a carry over than has long since lost its purpose other than tradition. Now the majority vote in each state wins all of the electoral votes for the state. Larger states have more electoral votes. This system made it possible for Al Gore to win the Majority Vote in the 2000 election but lose the electoral vote, which made George W. Bush your president.
