12 inches = 30 cm (easier in metric). Perimeter of cake = pi x diameter = pi*30. Perimeter of cake (same as "circumference) is approximately 94 cms. I'm not sure what the diameter of a Flake is, I'm estimating 1.5cm, which means 62 and 2/3 Flakes. Which sounds a lot, but you could probably cut one flake into halves or thirds, depending on the height of the cake.

Also, you'll need less/more if the diameter of the Flake is bigger/smaller that 1.5, respectively.

And I have not allowed for any "gap" between the flakes, not even 1mm; taking that into account you'll need around 55 Flake bars to cover the cake with a 1mm gap each side of every flake (a tiny gap). Take it up to a 2mm gap each side you need 50 Flakes. However this all depends upon my estimate of the diameter of the Flake being 1.5 cm, if it is out by 0.1 or more, it will make a significant difference to how many Flakes you need.
