It depends on the particular design and the design objectives. One plant that I worked at had 137 control rods, each having four bundles, for a total bundle count of 548 assemblies. Each assembly had 62 fuel rods and two water rods in an 8 x 8 matrix.

Why would you not build a nuclear plant in the middle of a desert?

A nuclear power plant needs a large heatsink, i.e. cooling water. There is very little cooling water in the middle of a desert. That is why nuclear power plants are generally built on the edge of oceans or lakes, or on large rivers.

What is a part of a nuclear power plant that undergoes a fission reaction?

Nuclear fission takes place in the nuclear fuel rods that are placed in the reactor core that is situated in the reactor pressure vessel. The reactor pressure vessel is usually situated inside the reactor containment.

What is the function of a nuclear reactor of a nuclear plant?

Who invented the nuclear power plant?

What are the emotional aspects of nuclear plants?

You mean of the people who run them I think. My own emotion when running a large nuclear plant is of awe, but also of the feeling of being in control of a large powerful but docile mechanism, which always does what you tell it to.
