17 per head 34 in all
17 bolts per head.
It will be on the right side of the block where the head bolts on. with right head on engine the block will stick out a little bit in the front the # will be right there. may have to clean or sand block to read.
Do not use sealant on the head gasket. I use permatex on the threads of the bolts that go into water jackets.
i just removed the heads in my 70' Chevy Monte Carlo. its a small block so i had to remove 17 head bolts. big blocks however are differrent. so it depends on the size engine you have.
Head bolts are 65 lb/ft. Look at the link, "Small Block Chevy" at the right for all torque specs.
65 on the long bolts 45 on the short bolts
It shouldn't matter.
75-90 ft lbs.
65ft. LBS.
65 ft-lbs
could be a bad head gasket or cracked head.
on the back of the block where the belt housing bolts on and also on the front in front of the passenger side head there is a ledge that has a number there unless the block has been decked
Same as small block. 3/8's inch, NC, (16 threads per inch) and I would use 2 and a half inch long, with lock washers. The head of these bolts will need a 9/16ths inch wrench.
