The US government has photos of his dead body but they have not released them yet, and likely never will (photographs can be manipulated too easily). They also completed a DNA test confirming his identity. Plus, a woman on-site at the raid identified him as Osama bin Laden.
Osama Bin Laden is dead. He was killed by U.S. Navy Seals, who conducted a raid on his home in Pakistan. After he was killed, he was buried at sea, having received a Muslim religious ceremony first. Prior to his death, many diplomats believed he was hiding in Pakistan, and in fact, it turned out he had been living in a mansion, about a mile from a Pakistani military academy. President Obama authorized the mission to kill Bin Laden, and the mission was successful.
Osama Bin Laden was killed by a special task force of the United States Navy Seals and CIA operatives, at the command of President Obama and Secretary of State Panetta. Seal Team 6 raided Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, which they had under surveillance. The location was confirmed when Bin Laden's courier was identified and followed to the compound. Along with Bin Laden himself, three other men and a woman died in the raid. Bin Laden was killed when he was shot during the raid before being able to reach his weapon. His body was later buried at sea because no country would claim the body, and to avoid having his burial site turned into a shrine for potential supporters.
FourOsama bin Laden had four wives, one of whom was killed in the same raid in which Osama bin Laden was killed. (For more information on Bin Laden's background, click on the Related link.)
Contrary to myth, rumor, and conspiracy theory, all evidence points to Osama Bin Laden and his supporters, most of whom came from Saudi Arabia. There are some folks who continue to say it was an "inside job" (these people are called "9/11 Truthers"), but it's highly doubtful the Bush Administration planned it, and I say that as someone who was not a fan of that administration. Looking at the available facts, including materials we now have from the raid on Bin Laden's hiding place, it's very clear that this was an attack that was organized and carried out under the direction of Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda. The goal was to bring down the symbol of American business & capitalism (the Twin Towers, Wall Street) and to destroy the symbol of American governance (the White House). While doing considerable damage (and, more importantly, taking nearly three thousand innocent lives), the attacks did not destroy America as Bin Laden had hoped.
