What is the difference between the Navy SEALS and Delta Force?

The Navy's SEAL units are primarily team based / unit based operators, whose missions focus on swift action behind enemy lines. The Army's 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-D, or Delta Force, also does small unit tactics, but the common recruiting factor between all of their members is that they are also outstanding in their ability to work alone, and without support if the mission requires it. SEAL's rarely work as lone operators; Delta Force operators' ability to go it alone when necessary is their key asset. For a great read on Delta Force, check out Eric Haney's book, "Inside Delta Force".

Can Navy SEALs become Delta Force commandos?

No, Seals are part of the Navy, Delta Force is part of the Army They can if they choose not to continue being a SEAL when it is time to reenlist, and enlist in the Army Delta force, but then they would be Ex-Navy SEALs. Besides, SEAL's dont go for Delta Force, they go for DevGru.

What is the best top notch special forces in the us?

SEAL team 6 vs Delta force who gets more missions?

Both receive generally the same amount of training. It's know that Green Team (which is the name of the training that SEAL Team 6/DEVGRU goes through) is about 10 months, and that's not including BUD/S and SQT(SEAL Qualification Training) that all SEALs must pass before becoming a DEVGRU operator. The number of months that Delta Force trainees must go through is unknown, it was 6 months when they started but I can guarantee that number has changed. Delta operators are also usually former Rangers or Green Berets, so both units have guys who have a lot of Special Forces experience already. A lot of people think that SEALs are in the Navy and that the Army SF units don't learn diving, not true. Delta has all the same capabilities that SEALs do. The simple difference between the two is that SEALs are usually more water based and Delta are usually more land based. SEALs are highly trained in VBSS (Visit Board Search and Seize) GOPLAT (Gas/Oil Platform) operations, Delta are highly trained in taking down planes. That's not to say that DEVGRU can't take down a plane or Delta can't take down a GOPLAT but that is there respective specialties. Even if DEVGRU or Delta had a few months more training that doesn't necessarily mean that one is "better" than the other. Both are the only 2 Tier 1 SF units the US have to offer and both are very, very good at their job.

No, you have to be in the Navy to be a SEAL. The army has its own special operatives, however. Delta Force is the absolute best the army has to offer. Many consider them to be superior to the SEAL operators.

What are the main differences with DEVGRU and Delta force?

Almost 100% of the ST6 shooters came from the SEAL Teams whilst Delta is comprised of personnel from the Ranger Regiment, Special Forces, the conventional Army, as well as even members of other military branches (there have even been ST6 members who have vetted for Delta over the years), while For Delta, the majority come from the 75th and SF; two VERY distinct units with completely different missions and cultures.
