About 2 hours from North London and 3 hours from South London.
I'd assume the quickest was is to drive to the Lake District from Oxford. You will have to get the M40 (north) towards Birmingham, Get on to the M42 and then on to M5 going north. When the M5 ends join on to M6 North all the way up to the Lake District. Considering the driving conditions in town and the traffic you are likely to hit at the M5-M6 junction and along the way, if one assumes an average speed of 55mph, it should take you around three and half hours to get to Lake Windermere.
Keswick, Ambleside and Windermere are the largest tows in the Lake District but there are many other towns and villages.
London is the capital city of the United Kingdom and is located in southeast England. It isn't in a district but has many districts within it.
