Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that the vast majority of mankind will go to one of three levels (also called 'kingdoms' or 'degrees') of heaven.
The highest level, the Celestial, is only for those who have accepted Mormonism and lived faithfully since that time. It is believed that one may accept Mormonism after they have died and still enter the Celestial Kingdom. Those in the Celestial Kingdom will live in the presence of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. They will continue to grow in knowledge throughout eternity and their family relationships will continue for eternity as well.
The middle level, the Terrestrial, is for good people of all faiths. It is also for Mormons who were not always faithful, but who still lived good honest lives. Those in the Terrestrial Kingdom will be able to be in the presence of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, but not the Father. They may continue to learn and grow, but will not be given the same eternal blessings as those in the Celestial.
The lowest level, the Telestial, is for the unrighteous people of all faiths. This includes liars, theives, whoremongers, etc. Some of these will have to suffer a thousand years in hell before entering the Telestial Kingdom. Those in the Telestial Kingdom can only be in the presence of the Holy Spirit. They will not have the opportunity to be with Jesus or the Father.
Mormons believe that eternal suffering in hell (also called 'perdition' or 'outer darkness') is reserved only for those who knowingly and willingly denied salvation through Jesus Christ after having a deep personal testimony and knowledge of Christ and His gospel.

Many religions contrast with Mormonism. Mormons believe that there are three levels of heaven, when many other Christians believe there is only one. Mormons believe that people have the ability to become gods after death, when some other Christians believe that is blasphemous, making themselves above or equal to Jehovah. Some "fundamentalist" Mormon splinter groups believe that there are no limitations to the number of spouses one might have, when many other Christians believe that you can only have one.
Do the mormons believe that jesus died on a pole instead of a cross?
No, Mormons believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross, just like most other Christians. Mormons believe and study the Bible throughly, so the accounts there are what we believe. Mormons dont however use the cross as a religious symbol like many other religions... Perhaps you are thinking of the Jehovah's Witnesses? They do not believe that Jesus died on a cross.

Many things that people say against Mormons simply come from someone who is uninformed or has a different opinion. This does not mean that it is bad, but it is often offensive. Those who are uninformed or misinformed often say: -Mormons are polygamist (this practice was banned by the church over 120 years ago in 1890) -Mormons dont believe in the Bible (Mormons consider the King James Version of the Bible as sacred scripture and are encouraged to study it daily) -Mormons don't believe in Jesus (Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is their Savior, just like all Christians) -Mormons are cultish (Mormons live and dress and act just like most anyone else in society. They do not live on compunds, etc.) -Mormons worship Joseph Smith (Mormons believe Joseph Smith was a prophet, just like Moses or Abraham, not a god to be worshipped) -Mormons kidnap, brainwash, coerce, etc (Mormons wish everyone to make their own decisions, and define their standards by Scripture) Those who have different opinions and say things that are offensive to Mormons often say: -Mormons are not Christian (Mormons are not traditional Protestant Christians, but they do still believe in the Bible and salvation through Jesus Christ.) -Mormons are lying (Mormons honestly believe they are telling the truth) -Mormonism is a pyramid scheme (Mormons believe in paying a Tithe and in missions work to gain converts, but believe this is Biblically based and do not seek converts for monetary gain) -Mormons are unbiblical (Mormons believe that they are following the Bible very strictly, but the Bible can be interpreted differently by different people) -Mormonism is false (this is obviously just an opinion, but one that is often offensive to those who honestly believe)

There are no facts on what happens after death, if heaven exists there or not. If you believe in it you believe in it. The Mormons can be right or they can be wrong. Clearly other religions would not agree with them.As for what Mormons teach regarding this, the answer is NO. Mormons believe that as God loves all mankind, He wants to allow as many as possible to return to him and live with him in heaven. They believe that a huge majority of people will go to heaven, and only a very small part will be damned. They also believe that people may accept the gospel of Jesus Christ after death, before they are judged. In fact, the whole reason Mormons build temples is so that they can be baptized for those who have died. They believe that if they are baptized for someone who is dead, that person will have the opportunity to accept the baptism and and be saved.
