Questions like this can only be ESTIMATED because they will always vary. For example in Vietnam a Mechanized Infantry battalion might show an authorized strength of 900 men on paper, but only be fielding 600 men. Two or more battalions (in Vietnam) equalled a brigade (Bde); two or more Bde's equalled a Division.
A US Army tank battalion had nearly 600 men on paper in Vietnam. Using the formula above, an armored division (although only tank battalions were in country and not divisions) could be 2,400 men. When a division was short men and equipment they were referred to as "under strength" platoons, companies, battalions, bde, divisions, etc.
For US Army only (Vietnam War era): If you've been in combat with a particular division, you may wear the shoulder patch on your RIGHT shoulder (some men referred to this as a "combat patch"). The left shoulder reflects your current division. If you've never been in combat with that particular division and had worn that division patch on your left shoulder for 20 years (as an example), when you leave that particular division...you may NOT wear the patch on your right shoulder.

Answer Initially, the 101st Airborne Division had 8,596 man strength. The airborne Division was smaller than an infantry division, which had approximately 15,000 men. The Airborne Division had 3 Regiments made up of 3 battalions consisting of 3 companies. The infantry had 3 regiments divided into 3 battalions of 4 companies Later in the war, the Airborne Divisions were increased to four three-battalion regiments and had an assigned strength of well over 12,335.
There is no reason why women should not be in combat. My friend's dad was in the army. He said that there were 20 women in his division and 60 men. When his division was at target practice, almost always the women hit the target. He said it was because the women took more time in aiming there shot.

Volleyball is a college sport played by both men and women. There are interesting distinctions: women play in the fall and men play in the spring. Not only this, the NCAA sponsors many more women's volleyball programs than men's. There are 311 Division I Women's volleyball programs compared to 22 Division I Men's programs.
