I bought my 2004 (automatic) Mini used in 2007. It had about 40,000 miles. 17 months into the 18 month warranty I had purchased, the entire transmission had to be replaced. Thankfully, I had the warranty, the job cost the warranty company about $8,000. At the time, the car had only about 55,000 miles. At 70,000 I experienced Power Steering failure on and off. I've priced a power steering pump online, and it appears to be about a $600-$1,000 part. At this point the power assist only seems to work for 5 minutes at a time, about once a week. At 75,000 I tried to start the car one morning, and it wouldn't turn over. I heard a clicking noise, and the lights began flickering and windows rolled down in time with the clicking noice. From what I see online, this may be a battery issue. At this point, I'm really frustrated with my Mini. I loved driving her for the first year! In my opinion, I'd say you can get 50,000 miles out of a Mini before it's time to think about getting a new car. wow, thanks for the help! I was thinking about buying a mini...really appreciate it.
