NeverIt does not have a timing belt! It has a timing chain, and no maintenance is necessary.I have a 97 sentra ga16DE engine and the timing chain shouldn't need any help BUT if you hear rattling or something similar to a chain being dragged over a steal plate coming from the front of your engine (were the belts alternator pumps all are located) then you need to have the chain looked at possible replaced, though it is more likely that you just wore out the pads on the tensioners and that needs replacing. The tensioners should only get wear if you have very dirty oil, no oil..., or the car has around 200-300k miles on itSimple answer when it makes noise that it normally doesn't, you can tell a lot about an engine by the noises it makes.
There are two "secondary timing chain tensioners". Ford part #'s--- 1ea. of the following (F7LZ-6K254-BA) and (F7LZ-6K254-AA). There are also two "primary timing chain tensioners". Ford part #'s ---1ea. of the following (F6AZ-6L266-CA) and (F6AZ-6L266-DA). If any more information is needed concerning timing chains and all related parts I have a complete list with all Ford part numbers and approx. prices. There are three Ford dealers that I buy from (internet part sales) in various parts of the country that give 30% to 35% discounts.
The timing chain on today's vehicles are designed to last the life of the vehicle.
5000
80,000 miles is recommended
the Appalachian mountain chain is 2,500 miles long
Depends a lot on the model and age. Some of the three cylinder engines in the 02-onwards cars have had issues, these were brand new in 2002 and the designs have been modified since to fix some of the problems that have appeared. One big problem with the 1.2 engines is slippage of the timing chain (the engines use a chain instead of a cam belt). In theory the chain is supposed to save on maintenance and never need replacing like an ordinary rubber cam belt, but in practice a problem with the tensioners meant that many of them slipped at around 40-50,000 miles, meaning the engines had to be stripped and rebuilt with new chains and modified tensioners. Be wary of any older (pre 2005) 1.2's that haven't had this work done.
60,000 miles or 5 years if in doubt get mechanic to check for wear. Advisable to have water pump and tensioners changed at same time as same labour involved.
its a chain, never
