my 85 4x4 gets 20 mpg
For two wheel drive it gets 22 miles to the gallon. For four wheel drive, it gets 21 miles to the gallon. (Both for highway.)

My Ford Excursion is equipped with a V10 and has 4 wheel drive and gets exactly 7 miles to the gallon in the city.
