I have a Kia Sportage and was told I would need $2000+ work on it at 60,000 milles. Why doesn't other cars need a new timing belt at that amount of mileage? I ws happy with my Kia till I was told this. Pretty crappy isn't it?

The interval is listed in your owners manual. It is to be replaced every 80,000 miles.
You will have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump. I just had mine done on 06 kia sorento and it took the mechanic 6 hours.

The 2006 Honda Accord V6 has a timing belt and the 4 cylinder has a chain. Replace the belt at 110,000 miles.
Replace at 110,000 miles. This is an interference engine.
