Sadly 280,000 high school students in America have admitted to using steroids to enhance their performance in the sport of gridiron.

This number is of course below the estimate as most steroids using deny they take drugs. Americas steroid problem is down to the need for steroids to play American sports such as gridiron and Baseball.

In countries where baseball and gridiron are unpopular steroids are very rarely used by high school students.

Expansion: That 280,000 number is hugely worthless. Most of America doesn't even know what steroids are, much less high school students. I still come into contact with doctors or soccer moms who think CREATINE is a steroid. So that poll number is worthless.

Here's food for thought- Texas recently implemented steroid testing for HS athletes. They just tested 10,000 students. Guess how many tested positive for steroids??? FOUR. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,479241,00.HTML

The "epidemic" of steroids and steroid use among teenagers is a fictional concocted epidemic that ignorant stupid Americans eat up like pie.

EXPANSION: Football moms would be unlikely to know much about steroids because football does not have a steroid problem as it takes skill to play football which is why they want their children to play it.

"Boys and girls in all sports, from football [gridiron] to tennis to cross country, have been randomly selected."

The tests were done on all sports not just baseball and gridiron. Most sports do not have a steroid problem, just two or three.

Rigging tests to avoid the problem is not helping anyone.

According to weight-training-guide.net . . .

In 1994, 1,084,000 Americans, or 0.5 percent of the adult population, said that they had used anabolic steroids, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. In the 18 to 34 age group, about 1 percent had ever used steroids; for ages 35 and older, that figure went down to 0.2 percent. More men than women had used the drugs: 0.9 percent of men and 0.2 percent of women said they had ever taken steroids.

NIDA's Monitoring the Future study has tracked anabolic steroid use among middle school and high school students in the United States since 1989. From 1989 to 1996, there was a slight, gradual decline in the number of 8th, 10th, and 12th graders who had ever used steroids or used them in the past year. In 1996, 1.8 percent to 2.4 percent of these students had ever used steroids, and 0.9 percent to 1.5 percent had used them in the last year.

In all, not many. Steroids has profuse long term side effects. Since it has now become illegal to take steroids, I predict that these numbers have decreased over time. If you want to get ripped, work hard at it, don't give up. And don't plan on working out for a couple months, make it a life long habit. Once you stop, you'll shrink.

if you count the 8th 10th or12th grade you would get 16,000 males and 14,230 females in N.Y. public schools. including male and female adults would give you a estimate of 300,280 adults so your total is 330,510 people.
